In House Marketing Vs The Marketing Agency

Content Marketing Comments Off

DIY  SEO and Marketing – that’s a route that a lot businesses try to take and it’s been going on for years;  More so the Marketing than the SEO.  A number of businesses fail to see or react to the benefit of hiring an online marketing agency and prefer to handle their affairs in house.  This might actually lean toward being beneficial for a company but that depends entirely on the skill of the individuals within the organization and their knowledge of the new rules of marketing and PR.

Lets compare the two and examine the primary focus of many business in each of the areas:

Cost

  • In House Marketing – If you plan on handling your optimization and online marketing in house without an agency then you can expect higher costs in many cases.  You will have to devote time to structuring a new division or restructuring an existing marketing division to meet the new methods of marketing online – taking SEO, connection and engagement into account (to name a few).  There will be a fair amount of training required, as well as the cost of acquisition to recruit and interview candidates.  Overall, you’ll be shelling out funds for payroll even if there is a drop in the necessary marketing material that’s required.
  • Marketing Agency – Cost is limited to the job, so you’re not paying for someone to sit around and wait for an assignment.  There is no labor cost during research, production, project launch or data gathering.  If you go through a period where you change your marketing or put it on hold, then you’re not paying until your marketing kicks in again.

Time

  • In House Marketing - You’ll need to devote time to handle the work yourself or get yourself a team of people to tackle the marketing and SEO work that needs to be done.  You can use existing employees, but you’ll likely be taxing an already busy employee which could create problems with quality.  Without a marketing agency to manage the work, you’ll also need to oversee the progress of your marketing and SEO to ensure that productivity is where it needs to be and there is a return on your investment, etc.
  • Marketing Agency – A marketing agency can give you a hands off approach to all of the marketing and optimization.  Your intervention and presence within the overall strategy and performance is minimal, giving you all the extra time necessary to focus on your business.  You won’t be putting pressure on employees and you won’t waste any time through recruiting, training or restructuring departments.  Time is money and keeping your time will save you plenty of it.

Presence

  • In House Marketing – Marketing on the web is about presence, and a lot needs to happen in specific ways in order to build yourself an appropriate presence with users and the search engines.  If the marketing and SEO isn”t handled properly, you could create a negative brand image for yourself and a potential SEO nightmare with the search engines.  This happens more often than it should, and the cause is typically poor training and research within an in-hour marketing team.
  • Marketing Agency – With a reputable marketing agency, you can almost guarantee to have your brand and image handle properly along with your presence in the land of search engines.  The key word is reputable, because there are agencies that don’t hold themselves to very high standards.  The work that will be performed by a marketing agency will help you establish the best possible presence online.

For any business, these three areas are key to success, especially presence.  These are not topics that should ever be subject compromise.  If you’re looking for the best route to take in terms of marketing and SEO, then the obvious choice would be to turn to a marketing agency and keep the headaches and frustration as well as the money drain outside of your offices.
