Better SEO Positioning with Press Releases
If you query a search engine optimization company like our own for tips on how to improve your SEO positioning, one of the main things we’re going to tell you is that you need to establish quality backlinks to your site.
Backlinks are essential in proving to the search engine that your content is relevant and that other people enjoy the content. Your site rank in the SERPs is like a popularity contest. The more popular you are and the better quality of all those links then the higher you’ll rank in the SERPs. Essentially, backlinks show the search engine algorithm that other websites believe your site is important enough and trustworthy enough for their traffic to land their – if they trust you, then Google (and other search engines) will trust you.
Of course, you always need to have quality content in place on your site so that the traffic you’re getting has a reason to stay and reinforces your relevancy, but that’s another article entirely.
Most backlinks will come from other websites that want to share your content with their visitors. There are however ways that you can get additional backlinks generated and get some SEO positioning on your own.
Press releases are one of the greatest sources of immediate traffic short of PPC and can provide some great backlinks to your site, especially if you’re using one of the major press release services.
The major benefit from Press Releases is that they post to Google and other search engines as being “news worthy”. Because of this, Google for example will post a freshly issues press release right on the first page of Google under the “News” section. There’s no marketing to get your press release on the first page, it’s already there under the keywords you’re targeting. That’s SEO positioning that can’t be bargained for.
Press releases or news releases are generally seen by people as an authoritative and credible source, and it’s the perfect opportunity for you to reach out to your target audience in a manner that’s less personal than a blog post and a bit more formal. This is a professional opportunity to shine a light on a certain aspect of your service, an achievement, a launch, etc.
What a press release is not is an environment for sales. There should be little to no real promotional content, and it’s not an environment to include a sales pitch of any kind. A press release written from a journalistic perspective, based on fact, has a greater chance of being accepted by the press release distribution service. Once it’s published, which is usually within a few hours of submission, it will appear in the search engines and almost immediately begin to improve your SEO positioning.
